- Summary
In 1919 Selina Lee married Ali Hassan. They had three children, Ruby, Connie and Allan before Ali Hassan's early death in 1929. Selina began a tailoring and drapery business, that did a good trade outfitting the military when a garrison was established in Darwin. In 1940, Selina decided to move to Singapore to educate her children in Chinese religion. They were caught there during the Japanese occupation but managed to avoid the harsh treatment otherwise inflicted on the Chinese population because they lived in the Malay quarter. When the war finished they returned to Australia and established a home in Richmond, Melbourne. Selina Hassan bought a sub-newsagency.
