Roy Lee Dow was the second son of Lee Dow (family name Lee) and Mary Wong who both came from Canton. Lee Dow and Mary settled first in Launceston then in Melbourne in Little Bourke Street. Roy was an engineer with Australian Iron and Steel, later BHP, having been educated at the Working Men’s College, now RMIT University. He married Sylvia Chew. Sylvia and Roy were the parents of Professor Kwong Lee Dow, recently Vice-Chancellor of the University of Melbourne.
