Photograph dated as post-1926 because in the back of the hall hanging from the stage is a National flag of China with the star which was only adopted after Chiang Kai Shek captured Shanghai in 1926-7. Bob hair cuts were out of fashion by the 1930s.

Possible Chinese Progress Association ball or KMT ball. On the left and the right walls are large Chinese processional banners. Which look like banners which are in the collection of the Museum of Chinese Australian History. Note the range of costumes being worn, not all are Chinese-style. This looks like a costume ball.
