Ah Hong married an Arrernte woman and had three children before returning to China.
According to the caption of a photograph of him in John Blakeman's collection: 'Mr Ah Hong, Chinese cook on the Overland Telegraph Line. Taken in front of his garden where Woolworths is now (1985). Later he moved to where the Alice Springs Memorial Club is now. He died aged 102 years. He owned an eating house, had a vegetable garden, fowls and goats.'
