Tommy Young operated a store in Quirindi, northern New South Wales. He then went Tingha (NSW) where he established a small wildlife park. Then he went to Surfers Paradise where he established the 'Cathay Cathay' restaurant in the 1950s. The 'Cathay Cathay' was the first Chinese restaurant there. He also rented out tourist accommodation.
