Details
Joyce May Tock was born in Melbourne in 1895. A photograph suggests she went to primary school at the Presbyterian Women’s Mission School before finishing her education at the Presbyterian Ladies’ College. Her marriage to George Lew Ton is thought to have been arranged. It is not currently known when they married. They had seven children: Frances Honora (1916-1988), Cecil Roland (1918-1978), Laurence Arnold (1920-2001), Roy (1923- ), Reginald George (1925-1972), Mervyn Noel (1926-1964) and Shirley Faye (1934- ).
Joyce and George Lew Ton’s Alien Registration forms completed during WWI indicates she was living with her family at 25 Latrobe Street, Melbourne in 1916. In 1921 they moved to Emerald for a couple of weeks before settling at Yarra Junction. Her occupation on the form was described as domestic. The birth places of her last two children suggest the family moved to Bayswater some time between the births of Reginald and Mervyn in 1925-1926. They were still living in Bayswater, in Canterbury Road in 1939
