Details
Melva Lord was the oldest daughter of Maud Lord (eldest daughter of James and Mary Lee Wah). Melva's siblings were Bert, Sid, George and Thelma. Several reports of Melva's school days told of considerable discrimination against her at school due to her Chinese appearance. She became a primary school teacher and later owned an antique shop in Bourke St, Kew with her brother George who had returned after a successful career in England as an actor and in the British Navy. Melva was an accomplished pianist and after becoming fluent in Italian while visiting George in England, taught Italian.
