The Lord Mayor's parade raised money the Lord Mayor's Metropolitan Hospitals Fund. The parade was held annually on October 5. It is believed to have become part of the Labour Day parade in the 1950s which then became the Moomba parade. There is a strong history of dragon parades connected with fund raisers for specific hospitals.
