    Description

The people at the rear of the photograph were standing on a stage. The rear of a piano can be seen on the right with the sign 'FOX TROT' which suggests that this was a social dance to mark a special occasion (hence the streamers). The type of dance was displayed on a card prior to each dance so that people who were unfamilar with the musical tempo didn't launch into a waltz, for example, when the music was appropriate for a fox trot.
